Making it Easy for Prospects to Find You: 3 Myths

Although the internet has evolved with the speed of technology, many archaic concepts still influence web-related decisions. Check to see if you’re hanging on to any of these outdated ideas—and hiding from prospects!

Myth #3

Write copy for the search engines. At one time everyone talked about finding professionals who could work keywords onto every page without turning the website into a second-grade reader. Search engines are more sophisticated now, so great copy aimed at the ideal prospect is the best marketing decision.

Myth #2

Coming up #1 is #1. With the advent of search engines came the birth of “web-site jockeys”--search engine-savvy people competing to ride a website to the winner’s circle (page one on an organic search).  Being found on the first page of Google for your chosen keywords only has merit if your potential customers are actually searching on those keywords. A far better measurement is the conversion of your website's visitors.

Myth #1

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. This might be true for a toaster, but even websites that are “working” need to be updated on a regular basis. When was the last time you gave some attention to your website’s structure and content? Search engine algorithms are constantly changing, so if you haven’t moved beyond META tags you’re overdue for an overhaul. Your keywords belong in your content, not in your META tags.
